DSGN provided architectural services for the revitalized, historic Longhorn Ballroom. With the Longhorn’s success, the client is now developing a concept on an adjacent site, an outdoor music venue to be called the Backyard. The Backyard will provide for attendance by up to 5,000 music lovers, and will include a new stage with state-of-the-art sound and lighting, elevated VIP viewing areas, restrooms, and ample spaces for food trucks and merch stands. the design of all elements are inspired by the raw, dance hall character of the original Longhorn. When not being utilized for events, the Backyard will function as overflow parking for the Longhorn Ballroom itself.

As part of the planning and design process, DSGN met with the city of Dallas often, including the Urban Design Peer Review Panel that reviews proposed projects for compliance with city urban design goals and standards. Out of those dialogues came concepts for enhanced streetscape along both Cadiz Street and Riverfront Boulevard, as well as enhanced measures to control sound and traffic. DSGN is now managing the implementation of the Cadiz upgrades, with Riverfront upgrades planned for a future phase.
