Cenzo’s Pizza is a Contributing Structure in the Winnetka Heights Historic District. Originally constructed in 1933 as a Magnolia Service Station, the original owner operated it for many years. In the 1970s, it was converted to a washateria, when an unfortunate CMU wing was added. In 2008, a taco stand was added.

The current owners, both local residents, purchased the property in 2021 with goals of creating a gourmet pizza restaurant as a family-oriented dining destination for Oak Cliff. DSGN and the owners worked closely with preservation staff to research significant features of the protected exterior, restore its original character, meet current codes, and maintain historical integrity.

All renovation measures were approved by the city’s Landmark Commission, including masonry repair, replacement of non-original windows and doors, rehabilitation of overhead doors, and new roofing. Interior rehabilitation included removal of non-historic partitions, equipment and finishes, asbestos abatement, stabilization of original plaster finishes and exposed brick, new MEP systems, and appropriate interior finishes, furniture and lighting.

Safe, landscaped areas were created for families to dine and play, with the porte cochere repurposed for outdoor dining. Parking was moved to the side of the site. Landscaping was added in accordance with historic district regulations.
