The Churchill Recreation Center was a well-used and well-loved community facility in north Dallas, located adjacent to lovely and wooded Churchill Park.

DSGN’s commission was for the expansion of the existing building to provide additional multi-purpose rooms, a new, larger workout center with upgraded equipment, and new locker and shower rooms. The DSGN design met each of these program requirements well within the city’s construction budget,

But, seeing opportunities beyond the basic brief, DSGN developed a design that provided these additional facilities, but also created an outdoor courtyard for relaxation between workouts, improved visual connectivity with the forested surroundings, and provided additional landscaped parking for both the Rec Center and the adjacent park. In addition to the expansion, finishes and facilities of the existing center were upgraded.

The result is a renewed life for the center, that increased its already strong appeal to the neighbors and users of Churchill Rec Center.
