The Institute is a cherished organization in Dallas, long recognized as a leading proponent of creative thought, education, and cultural vitality. Their campus, located in the Uptown area, was anchored by a pair of handsome houses dating back to the early 20th century. In addition, the campus contained a series of other, less significant buildings from various eras, in varying conditions. Because they had all developed over time on separate lots, the campus did not have a cohesive identity that took full advantage of its wooded site.

Working closely with Institute leadership and staff, DSGN prepared a Master Plan that moved internal parking and drives to the perimeter and created a wooded central courtyard. This courtyard was not only a visual amenity that tied the entire site together visually and functionally, it also created space for outdoor Institute events, including the Institute’s cherished classes on philosophy, history, and literature.

DSGN then prepared documents that successfully achieved the required zoning to allow the proposed Master Plan. In addition, we designed an upgrade to a utilitarian building converting it to a welcoming event center for conferences, weddings, and other celebrations.
