The beloved Ennis Library was in need of a full renovation to bring it up to modern library programming needs, including more outdoor space, specifically for Children. The idea of a children’s garden was developed, to be fun and playful, while providing opportunities for learning. The garden design carries elements from the indoor children’s library into the Garden including flooring geometry. Another garden feature is a sculptural drainage feature that serves a dual purpose of being both a downspout to collect roof runoff but also a place where children can create music. The protective fencing and wall, both keep children safe but remain porous allowing children to see the landscape outside of the garden. KSS was the Landscape Architect for the project working with Architexas, the Architect for the Library.
