This 4,480 sf Amenity Center serves Fairway Ranch, a residential neighborhood in Roanoke, Texas. The multinational developer requested lap pool, zero-entry children’s pool, dining area, and restrooms. The site is located on the former ranch of the famed professional golfer Byron Nelson, who was reported to have been as proud of his “Lazy B” Texas ranch as of his golfing accomplishments.

The center pays homage to the site’s history with a vernacular design that is modest and mindful of budget, yet rich in local flavor. The long, open-air metal roof takes its cues from historic cattle barns of rural Texas. Stone walls stop short of the roof, allowing ample ventilation for spaces below. A wood-clad observation tower extends through the roof, providing sweeping views of nearby hills. Materials include recycled steel, Texas San Saba stone, flame-treated wood, and concrete for low maintenance and durability, surrounded by native Texas plants.

A landscaped entry court provides a sense of arrival and slopes into a bio-swale for runoff filtration. A steel pole fence corrals the pool area. Surrounding natural open space transitions into a Festival Lawn area, providing a bonus site amenity not included in the original program.
