This project for a pickleball and tennis center will be located in the revitalizing and vibrant North Oak Cliff area of Dallas, just south of the Lake Cliff Historic District. The existing building was originally a Chevrolet automobile dealership constructed in 1963. In recent years, it has been used for a variety of uses, including automobile repair and as a bus terminal.

The core of the client’s program called for a series of indoor pickleball courts and rooftop tennis courts suitable for tournament play. In addition, support facilities would include locker rooms, childcare, cafe, and pro shop, as well as parking and service.

The project is designed to the standards of the Secretary of the Interior for historic preservation, maintaining the primary features of the original building, even with its new uses. These consist primarily of a striking structural frame of pre-cast concrete beams and deck supported by cast-in-place concrete columns, all in reasonably good condition. This frame will be infilled with panels and glazing compatible with the original character. Interior finishes will be minimal and straightforward, compatible with the original mid-century industrial character. All new MEP systems will be added, including court lighting for night-time play, air-conditioning.
