The Prairie Creek Branch Library is an 18,000 sf building designed to hold 65,000 volumes located on a 4-acre site in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas. The facility also contains an auditorium, divisible meeting rooms, classrooms, and separate areas for teens, tweens, and young children. The library is a new highly successful municipal facility much-loved and used by the community. The early design process involved the neighborhood enabling them to understand the benefits of the sustainable public building along with the new landscape approach of re-creating a tallgrass prairie. As a result, public ownership and pride were immediate. A connection with a public school located north of the site was embraced with a direct pedestrian connection that passes an outdoor classroom and sculpture garden.
