The Heights Theater is a historic movie theater located in The Heights neighborhood of Houston, Texas. Constructed in 1929, the theater has gone through several renovations (including one renovation after a fire in 1969), none of which were sensitive to the original character of the building. The goals of the client and DSGN were to maintain and restore the existing historic facade while returning the building to its original intended purpose as a performing arts space.

The Art Deco exterior of the building was restored and repaired, with minor adjustments enhancements required for accessibility and egress. After fire and previous renovations, there was little left of the historic interior, but care was taken to preserve and highlight the few remaining historic features, such as a cracked-tile mosaic entrance floor.

Other interior improvements included creation of bars and backbars, lounge areas, and upgraded and accessible restrooms. Special attention was paid to the Listening Room, the main performance space. A new mezzanine for additional seating was constructed, with special care paid to sightline to the stage, further enhanced by state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems.

The restored Heights Theater is now a favorite of artists and listeners alike.
